Honeymoon Spot – Monterey

Less than 150 miles from San Luis Obispo, Monterey would make a good destination for a honeymoon after your central coast wedding.   A “must-see” is the Monterey Bay Aquarium with its interactive exhibits as well as an up-close look at marine life.   After your trip to the Aquarium, stroll along Cannery Row (named in honor of John Steinbeck), stop for lunch at one of the restaurants, sneak into one of several art galleries, stop for a bit of wine tasting, or just leisurely walk the streets.   If a little more adventure is to your liking, rent a bike and petal along Monterey Bay Coastal Recreational Trail, or scuba dive or kayak in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.   Next, travel to Fisherman’s Wharf for a walk along the wharf where you can stop at one of the restaurants with a menu featuring fish from the bay or venture to wharf 2 where commercial fishing boats are unloading the catch of the day.   You might even be lucky enough to photograph sea otters as they splash in the harbor. For a closer look at marine life, you can take a glass bottom boat into the harbor or even go whale watching.   A short distance away is the famous 17-Mile Drive, weaving its way through world-renowned gold courses, the Del Monte Forest, and past scenic views of the coastline.   You might also consider Monterey as your hub and plan day trips to Carmel, Big Sur, or Pinnacles National Park (more on these spots in future blogs).
